Wife Hired Killer for US $1,000 to Murder Husband

KANDAL: After a body was found floating in a canal at Prek Dong village in Kandal province, the police conducted a wide search until they finally arrested the victim's wife for questioning. It was only later revealed that the wife herself had hired someone to kill her husband.

According to the Criminal Police Department, the victim's wife, 34-year-old San Thida, confessed that she had hired a construction worker, a 40-year-old Cambodian man named Vy, to kill her husband, through electrocution and strangulation.

On Sunday, 15 January 2023, the Criminal Police Department arrested the 40-year-old construction worker who confessed to killing the victim for US $1,000 from the victim's wife.

The victim was identified as 33-year-old Khoem Phally who came from Phnom Kravanh district of Pursat province. He was living with his wife, San Thida, in Khan Meanchey, Phnom Penh.

On Saturday, 14 January, a floating body was found in the two-meter-deep Vireak Pram canal, about 1000 meters from the expressway in Prek Dong village, Kampong Svay Commune, Kien Svay District, Kandal Province. The discovery of the body was reported to the Kampong Svay administrative police station. Village, commune authorities and doctors reported to the scene to examine the body and determined that the cause of death was murder by way of strangulation and electrocution.

Currently, the victim's wife and hired killer have been handed over to the Kandal Provincial Police for further action.
